Is it noticeably smaller than ESET? We also use GFI's Mail Essential to filter out spam, and was wondering if this would integrate with that? I run muiltiple sties, we use Viper on some and Eset at others.
From my experince Viper is a ligher application then ESET, both are easy to mange, but i find Viper is easier to deploy on remote installs. You can set Viper to hide itself complety from the client i.e. However Vipers plugins do cause way more problems then ESETS. Outlook crashes a lot. Both have phone support.ESETs support is better then GFI's and they do provide better server products for protection. In my experince End point does cause blue screens.Overall both are pretty good, I would look at VB bulltin to help you choose. I have not noticed any problems with the plugins - did you make sure that you completely removed all traces of the previous AV?I did have some problems when some workstations still had some TM files left over or registry keys were still listedI do however have some power users who do occasionally (once every 14 days) report IE crashes, I usually deem it to be just IE using to many resources and a lack of a resent reboot, how are you able to verify that it's the plugin within outlook? This will be something I keep in mindas far as the foot print, yes computer load times were greater with both TM and ESET (during the trial) and during scans it's unnoticeable when VIPRE runs. Recent thread from a fairly large enterprise user who's having trouble with Vipre.I'm biased against GFI.
Their support is terrible, and when your product has little to no documentation, a ton of undocumented switches and variable changes, and even after two weeks of phone tag trying to get their mail archiver program to work correctly, it continued to crash and be terribly unstable. I had inherited it, and it had never been working. We paid to have the maintenance renewed because right as I went to get it working, the maintenance expired.
After giving up, I requested that our license be invalidated and we be returned our prorated maintenance cost, and they told me to buzz off.Take that how you will, they couldn't fix their product, and refused to return even our maintenance cost. Shitty business practices. We moved from Sophos to ESET. At the time of migration, I had the opportunity to test ESET and GFI-Vipre contacted me; however, there wasn't enough time for me to demo both.Since I used user review, pictures from the product, and the documentation for each product (and a history of using ESET) - I based our purchase decision on those alone.I have had the opportunity to work with ESET support. They are responsive. The deployment/admin console on ESET is a bit confusing at first; however, after a week of doing it - I got the hang of it and it's quite simple. The footprint for desktop clients; however, are getting larger and larger. Not quite as Sophos, but it is getting there. After our 3 years- I will be looking at Forefront or else GFI if ESET becomes bloated.
I haven't used Vipre, but I have used many other GFI products and was very unimpressed. As Jaguar stated, Vipre is an acquired product, but GFI still left a really bad taste in my mouth. MailEssentials took my Exchange server down constantly.
They were never able to fix the problem and we switched to a hosted solution.Despite all that, I've heard really good things about Vipre, and hope they remain a good product even under a bad(in my opinion) company. We switched from McAfee SaaS to Eset a few months ago and have been really happy. The console looks intimidating, but once you start clicking through the tabs and stuff, it all makes sense and is really easy to use. I haven't noticed a large footprint, but maybe I'm merely comparing it to McAfee's gargantuan footprint. I did have an issue with pre-logon scans on XP machines(no issues on 7), so I just turned that off until we're completely switched over. I could make a different configuration file for the XP machines, I suppose. Jaguar wrote:Recent thread from a fairly large enterprise user who's having trouble with Vipre.I'm biased against GFI. Shitty business practices. The mail archiver ream and the antivirus team are two different business units, on the other end of the world.
The VIPRE team is in the Tampa Bay area, and has a very good reputation, so don't confuse the two. Apart from AV you also need to train your users because the bad guys use social engineering tricks to manipulate your user to click on bad links or open infected attachments. Check this out:Warm regards,Stu. Since most of my time at ESET has been working for our customer support team, it's great to hear positive reactions for our business support guys. As you all know, it's not always often that you get to hear praise or thanks for the work that you do. I'll pass this on to the guys. They'll definitely appreciate it.I always love discussions like this because it gives vendors like us a great view into what works and what doesn't and how we can make our products better.
I've got some more specific questions about our console and footprint but I don't want to derail or disrupt the great flow that's going here, so I'll post something on the instead. Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for the kind words and let you all know I'm always here and available.
Thanks.Edited Jan 17, 2013 at 17:49 UTC. Afeitguy wrote:I haven't used Vipre, but I have used many other GFI products and was very unimpressed. As Jaguar stated, Vipre is an acquired product, but GFI still left a really bad taste in my mouth.
MailEssentials took my Exchange server down constantly. They were never able to fix the problem and we switched to a hosted solution.Despite all that, I've heard really good things about Vipre, and hope they remain a good product even under a bad(in my opinion) company.I know it is a completely different product, but I do want to stick up for MailEssentials. GFI has a great name in the UK & ME was the go to program for email filtering. We considered it standard for any client with their own exchange server & had it at lots of different companies small & large. Never had any huge problems with it, on the odd occasion I worked with their support I was happy with them. Things may have changed since, I have not had an opportunity to use them recently, but my lasting impression of GFI was a good one.I have a few clients with Viper & have been very impressed. I recently upgraded one site from 5.x standard to 6.x Business Premium with great results.
The patch scan feature in premium is great. One thing to look out for with the premium feature is the invisible NIC they install for the firewall. Even if you do not have the firewall turned on, it still gets installed & can cause issues on servers, especially with NIC teaming enabled. As Jaguar said though, documentation is not their strong suit. I'm trialing VIPRE right now and was impressed at first. But now I'm not loving it.My issues:1. Scanning for unprotected/protected computers only shows clients on current VLAN. Fine for small networks, but not working great for mine. I was planning on using it to deploy to remote offices on different networks.
You can add the client manually but it's not working as it should. If I add 'client.domain.local', it adds CLIENT and CLIENT.DOMAIN.LOCAL. One of them will work but the other will fail saying it can't contact it. I can't delete this extra computer, so it's just staying in the Unprotected tab.
In fact, I can't delete any of the computers that show up in the Unprotected tab.2. Not getting email alerts when the web filtering blocks a bad web site. I get alerts when a trojan or virus is found.3. Don't like how VIPRE isn't in the START menu. If you close it, you must restart the service or reboot the computer.4. New installs make the user click ALLOW or NOT ALLOW on the firewall, even though the network is in the trusted zones.5. Wish you could see on the client which policy is being enforced6.
If we lack scientific evidence, it.See the software. 3d jardin paysagisme serial.
The 5 licenses in the trial is a joke. Just shows they aren't taking large clients seriously.
I shouldn't have to contact them to get it increased to 50.7. Android client should allow you to password protect the app so the user or thief can't uninstall it. Also would be nice if you wipe only company email related stuff or the entire device.
Not a big deal though.Just little stuff that is annoying me.Might try ESET today. We went from McAfee (or as we referered to it.McFooie). It was totally bogging down our systems. When we upgraded the systems to Vipre, our users thought we had upgraded their machines it improved performance so much.
I have been very happy with deployment (Console had even improved even though I was fine with the old one) capabilities. I don't have any WAN connected site except our other campus, but they run their own server console there. We have had good protection. I agree with Stu about Phishing, train the users if they are trainable.or scare them to death ( did I type that out loud?). Never tried ESET, so others will have to chime in on that one.

I've been in this industry way too long to ignore something like that. However, the support was awful. It took days for a response to a problem(usually the same one). I probably dealt with almost a dozen support people there. Their suggestions were always, 'It's probably a problem on your end.'
Antivirus Full Version Free
What kind of problem? We just upgraded everything. Clean installs on all servers, etc. 'I'll get back to you.' The only response I got after that from them was, 'Is your issue resolved?
We'd like to close this ticket.' And, they'd hound me at that point, every day.In the end, we switched to a hosted spam filter company. Less resources taken up on the Exchange server and haven't had a single problem since. I'm sure others have had better experiences, but when you get a bad taste in your mouth, it's tough to give them another chance.
